Goodbye Tiki

Our young dog, Tiki had struggled with illness since Dad brought her home when we still lived in Michigan. After Dad left for Alaska, she got sick again and again. Mom would pull her through only to have her fall ill again in a few weeks.

Tiki never made the trip to Alaska with us. But, before we left, she comforted Billy and me when we were tired, upset, or scared and she protected us. Like Peter Pan’s Nana, she was Mom’s helper and we all loved her dearly.

Sometime between July 7 and July 12, 1962 her health finally gave out and she said goodbye to her beloved family. We had to say goodbye to her too. That was my first experience with the loss of someone I loved.
